The book tries to elaborate the origin, theoretical basis, concept and connotation of the Belt and Road initiative, which was proposed by China and aims to link Asia, Europe and Africa through massive infrastructure construction, in order to promote development for countries along the route.
Wang Yiwei, author of the book and also a professor at Renmin University, said during the event that, as his second monograph on the topic, the book features more comprehensive interpretation and more intensive analysis on the initiative.
"The new book analyzes the initiative from the angle of civilization and the history of human society's modernization, and tries to explain the relation between ancient Chinese wisdom and Western social science," said Wang, who is also a senior research fellow of the Charhar Institute.
Yu Hongjun, former vice minister of International Department of CPC Central Committee, said, "Since the 'Belt and Road' initiative asks for long-term construction, the study and analysis on the topic should keep pace with the times and provide more valuable intellectual support for its implementation."
Zhang Guobin, secretary general of the Charhar Institute, expressed his congratulations to Professor Wang and said that the book presents a panorama of the 'Belt and Road' initiative while opening a window for foreign countries to understand both the initiative and China.
A seminar on the 'Belt and Road' initiative was held after the book launch. Experts from other universities and organizations also shared their opinions on the topic.
